Tell us about your store. What inspired you to create it?
I grew up in retail. Both of my parents owned and managed their own home furnishings and clothing stores. After leaving my corporate job, I knew I wanted to open a retail shop. I wanted to create an environment where there would be joy, and I also wanted to bring my dog to work. I named my shop after our family name, Stuhlbergs, which means “Chair Mountain” in German. Our new modern logo reflects the meaning. Twenty years later, Stuhlbergs has become a fixture in the Queen Anne community in Seattle, Washington. Here’s to the next twenty!
Talk to us about your product curation. How do you decide which brands to offer?
I enjoy well made products and a good laugh. My shop reflects both qualities. I carry a large variety of products with both a traditional and modern aesthetic. Throw in a big splash of whimsy, and welcome to Stuhlbergs!
What is your favorite or “must-have” LAFCO product and why?
Definitely Feu De Bois! It reminds me of winters growing up in Sun Valley, Idaho. With the snow falling outside, and the fireplace burning, Feu De Bois smells like home and comfort.
Do you have a store pet or furry friend? What’s his or her name?
It’s been a year since Harry, our CFO (Chief Fur Officer) crossed the rainbow bridge. Harry always wore a dapper bow tie and brought the store so much joy. We will be welcoming another fur officer to Stuhlbergs in the next coming years.
What advice or ideas would you like to share with other independent businesses?
Always go with your gut! Especially when hiring employees and buying inventory.
