Tell us about your store. What inspired you to create it?
Edward Pasquesi and his wife, Marie, started the business in 1975—evolving from a small hardware store in Highland Park, Illinois into the retail business that is known today as Pasquesi Home and Gardens—which is currently located in Lake Bluff, Illinois. The heart of the business grew out of Ed Pasquesi’s early interest in plants and ‘growing living things. The retail gardening business gave Ed and Marie an opportunity to create a family business that seeks to provide exceptional customer service to Chicago’s North Shore suburbs.
Talk to us about your product curation. How do you decide which brands to offer?
We are always looking for new products, local trends and listening to what our customers are looking for.
What is your favorite or “must-have” LAFCO product and why?
The candles! I love the handblown glass vessel the candle comes in. They are all pretty and very unique. I also love the scents of the candles. They are mild and not overpowering.
Do you have a store pet or furry friend? What’s his or her name?
The dog Blossom, created by a local artists featuring canines of the fiberglass variety.
What advice or ideas would you like to share with other independent businesses?
Continue to challenge yourself and always look for ways to improve your business – try new and different things.
